I am looking for the best expert on Farragut I can find. I have a great great uncle, David Ewing Nugent, who was the youngest first engineer on Mississippi steamboats back in the day. A newspaper article I found touted my relative’s service under Farragut. Could this have occurred when New Orleans was captured? Any ideas?

I discovered this site by “accident,” as I was researching information for a graduate assignment I have with A.M.U.

The “reason” for this quick note is: I was unable to locate the price(s) for the size of book-covers currently posted on your site. I’ve written a few non-fiction books, history genre (all at various stages of completion), and would like to know what the cost would be to get a book-cover placement on this site.

Hello, I came across an image of an ancient Roman battle scene on Google Images that was ascribed to Wig Wag. I’m a type designer and have recently completed a new font design called “Roma”. I’d like to be able to use the illustration in a tongue-in-cheek introduction of the new font. (If you can give me your email address I will send both the illustration in question and my intended use.) In any case, I need both a high res copy and your permission, thus this inquiry.

I am in the process of transcribing my husband’s great-grandfather’s letters home from Nashville, where he served. I was curious about the following found in one of his letters as to what he meant:

“Have had returns of all kinds to make out and have been down sick for the last week with a kind of intermittent fever. Have taken the inevitable quinine by the caseload, and am now getting better, although still weak and with a queer feeling about the eyes. I had a most terrible headache for about four days, and feel my head burst open several times. The gaps though seem to have closed up very well, for I find my cranium sound enough now. I am still confined to my quarters and feel quite weak. ” What do you make of this?
