Two new fiction works have made their way to my library. The March by E. L. Doctorow. This book was required reading for the Yale course by David W. Blight on the Civil War era which I mentioned here. I picked up a nice hardback used and am listening to it on my MP3 via download from the library.

I really love The March. This book is my introduction to the talent of Doctorow. I became an instant fan since then
If you enjoy Civil War novels, you should try Shades of Gray: A Novel of the Civil War in Virginia by Jessica James. It’s unusual that a female wrote such a historically accurate and entertaining novel about war.
Rene,
I know a guy who wrote a book on that battle….
Eric
Rene,
The Doctorow book is a marvelous read. but remember that it’s a novel. His description of the March 10, 1865 Battle of Monroe’s Crossroads is largely factually incorrect. Be careful.
Eric
Eric,
Thanks for the heads up. Good to know!
Will be interested in studying that battle more closely so that I can compare and contrast.
Best regards,
Rene
Cool! I’d love to read it Eric. Do tell!
